What is Google Scholar Journal Metrics?

Google Scholar Metrics includes a top 100 list of journals across various subject areas such as Business, Economics & Management, Engineering & Computer Science, and Humanities, Literature & Arts. Journals are ranked based on their h5-index and h5-median and may include titles not found in Scopus or Web of Science.


  • h5-index: the maximum value of ℎ such that a journal has published ℎ articles that have each been cited at least ℎ times in the last five years.
  • h5-median: the median number of citations received by the articles contributing to the h5-index. 

How to Find Top Journals based on Google Scholar Metrics

Step 1: Go to Google Scholar and select "Metrics". The journals are ranked by their h5-index and h5-median. 

Step 2: Click "View All" to check all the top 100 journals over the last five years.

Step 3: Under "Categories," you can narrow the search to more specific subject areas by selecting the categories.
