Journal Impact

What is Eigenfactor?

The Eigenfactor Score measures the number of times articles from the journal published in the past five years have been cited in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) year. You can find a journal's Eigenfactor Score on Eigenfactor.org (publicly accessible) or Journal Citation Reports (JCR)

The Eigenfactor Score, similar to the Journal Impact Factor, however, differs from the Journal Impact Factor in several key ways:

  • It excludes self-citations, meaning that references from one article to another within the same journal are not counted.
  • Citations from publications published in more prestigious journals will receive greater weight than those from less prestigious journals.
  • The sum of all all journals' Eigenfactor Scores is equal to 100.

Note: Eigenfactor Scores are only available for journals indexed in Journal Citation Reports (JCR). Besides, Eigenfactor Scores will be based only on citing publications in JCR. (i.e., citations from publications not in JCR will not be factored into Eigenfactor Scores).
