Transformative Agreement

Open Access Publishing

Transformative Agreement

The Library supports EdUHK authors to publish their works open access through various types of agreements with publishers. We also call it "Transformative Agreement (TA)".

Transformative Agreement (TA) is an agreement between institutions and publishers. It makes it possible for researchers to publish their articles in open-access journals without paying an additional fee called the Article Processing Charge (APC). This new model has two main components: “Read” and “Publish”:

  • "Read" is the subscription fee institutions pay to access journal articles published behind a paywall.
  • "Publish" is the cost associated with publishing articles in open-access journals.

For all TAs with limited free OA quotas (e.g., Springer Nature, Wiley, Elsevier), the quotas will be allocated according to the criteria recommended by Committee on Research and Development (CRD) on a first-come-first-served basis, including the author must be a full-time academic staff member of EdUHK as well as the first or corresponding author of the article, the article must be published in a Q1 journal listed by a recognized citation index service, etc. You can find the Q1 journal list here for your reference.
